Map of second hand shops / thrift stores in the Czech Republic
I love shopping... well, thrifting :D Unfortunately, it is sometimes quite hard to find a thrift store, charity shop or second hand shop in the Czech Republic, though there are many of them. And if it is not that easy task for locals, it is rather hard one for tourist or simply non-Czech residents. So I decided to explore all these places, and create a map for people like me. If you love digging in the piles of used clothing looking for some low-cost vintage tresure, here are some tips!
GO AND CHECK THE MAP!
Info
Map covers the whole area of the Czech Republic - places are divided into layers according to region (or sort of...). I am also trying to add opening hours, if possible (see "otevírací doba" in the description of the place), and of course web or facebook page for more info. If certain shop supports a charity or gives money to "good purposes", it is labelled with an icon of heart. Stores selling lots of children clothing are labelled with a star. If you would like to "dig something" rather than "browse hangers", we also have "hrabárny" - thrift stores with piles and piles of clothing, no racks... just pure digging. These are labelled with bright green color in the map.
Places to go
Most common "chains" of second hand shops are currently:
Textile house - red color map marks, clothes comes in "about month cycles" and at the end of the cycle prices are gradually getting low - at the beginning, everything has its own pricetag and at the end every piece cost 20 crowns (about 1 dollar or around 0.80 euro)
Genesis - dark pink color, in most stores, all pieces cost the same and the price is in the store window (in Prague there are few of them for - 99 crowns = 5 US dollars/ 4 Euros or around 60 crowns = 3 US dollars...)
Bellitex - orange color, mostly in Morava, various prices and various pieces, two stores are in Prague, but one is mostly outlet and prices are quite high
Charity stores / shops you should check:
SueRyder - few shops in Prague, not just clothing but maaany things given as donations in perfect condition, vintage also...
Moment - cheap and really nice clothing in perfect condition, Prague but mostly in Ostrava
Restart Shop - helping people after backbone injuries back to life, super cheap and cool modern clothes mostly from basic fast fashion chains (HM, ZARA...)
Borůvka (obchůdek Borůvka) - nice charity stores in Prague, full of nearly new stuff and cool prices!
Good "digging" places for clothes (mostly Prague):
Hrabárna Furtex - two stores in Prague, looot of digging for very low prices
Second hand Swiss - popular but also weird and dusty digging place in old big farmhouse in Prague (part of Prague called Ruzyně)
Elegant - purple color, combines digging and hangers, old and new stuff (you can get some super cheap vintage treasures there!), couple in Prague, mostly in Morava
Second hand land - near Prague in a small village called Točná, huge second hand filled with UK import clothes with posibility to dig
Megasekáč - two huge digging stores in Ostrava and Opava, pretty famous, looot of vintage stuff...
Tip and tricks for thrifting in Czechia
Anyway just go and check the places in the map... I am doing my best to keep the map up to date, but sometimes it could happen that you get somewhere and the store will be closed. Second hand shops sometimes do not last long in small towns... And please, beware of "thrift stores" in Prague - official thrift stores are overly expensive tourist traps with poor goods! Go for places called "second hand" or "bazar" instead and check the prices.
Prague second hand shops (aka thrift stores) and charity shops... plenty, right?
Also check for "free public libraries" - we call them "knihobudka", these are usually some bookcases/bookshelves in shopping malls or simply in the streets or city parks. People can put here books, magazines and also DVDs/CDs, they no longer want, and someone else can take them for free and give them new home. Totally worthy to check - GO THERE for official map!
We do not have "give-away shops" like some countries do, but people often swap things. If you no longer want some stuff you own, but you are also looking for something else and do not want to buy it this could be useful concept for you. Swaps are mostly for clothes and accessories or home supplies, also book swaps occur. For more info check the facebook group "Swap Prague".
